Grimsby Town have confirmed that they have signed midfielder Danny Rose after he was released by Swindon Town earlier this summer.
The 32-year-old has signed a two-year deal at Blundell Park.
Danny Rose Joins Grimsby Town
Promotion With Swindon Last Season
Rose played a part in the Robins’ return to League One last season. He made 21 appearances for Swindon in all competitions, as they were promoted to League One champions on points-per-game.
It was the third time that the 32-year-old had won promotion to League One, having completed the feat twice previously with Northampton Town and Portsmouth retrospectively.
He played a pivotal role in Portsmouth’s promotion, too. Rose scored five times in 38 league appearances, as Pompey finished the season as champions.
The former Manchester United youngster will add a wealth of experience to the Grimsby midfield. Academy product Harry Clifton is the oldest central midfielder currently at the club, aged just 22. As a result, Grimsby Town manager Ian Holloway has moved quickly to address the issue.
What Was Said?
Speaking about his move to the official Grimsby Town website, Rose said: “I jumped at the chance to work with Ian Holloway, as a lot of players would. After we had those chats my mind was made up, that’s what I wanted to do.
“I think I will bring quite a bit of experience to the team, I know the league well. I’ve had a bit of success at this level too, hopefully, I can bring that element to our play, bring a bit of composure to our play.”
He is the sixth player to join the Mariners this summer. Ian Holloway is looking to build a squad with a blend of experience and youth, who are also capable of a play-off push after finishing 15th in League Two last season.
