Vardy: One of Leicester’s Greatest Players

The rise of Jamie Vardy is arguably one of the greatest stories in English Football. Having been released by Sheffield Wednesday at 16, Vardy moved into non-league and played for the likes of Stocksbridge Park Steels and FC Halifax Town.

Vardy then moved to Fleetwood Town in 2011. He scored 31 goals in his only season for the club, which helped the Cod Army win promotion to the Football League for the very first time.

His goalscoring heroics for Fleetwood helped him secure a move to Leicester for a non-league record fee of £1.1 Million. His 16 goals in the 2013/14 season also helped the Foxes to the Championship title.

Vardy has been a huge part of Leicester City and the Premier League’s recent history. The striker scored in a record 11 consecutive games in the 2015/16 season. That same season the Foxes defied the odds and sensationally won their first-ever league title.

Vardy had a memorable 2019/20 campaign. He scored 23 League goals last season, which guided Leicester to Europe once again and also helped win the Premier League Golden Boot.

The striker also scored his 100th Premier League goal last season in a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace. He became the 29th player to join the prestigious 100 club.

Vardy has scored a total of 126 goals in 300 appearances for the East Midlands’ side and has also won 26 caps for England, scoring ten goals.

It’s been a positive week for Leicester City. Although Ben Chilwell looks set to depart for Chelsea, they have secured the long term futures of young left-back Luke Thomas and midfielder James Maddison.

The Foxes return to Premier League action on September 12, with an away trip at newly-promoted West Bromwich Albion.
