Ten days on from Barcelona’s Champions League capitulation, it now appears that forward Luis Suarez will leave the Spanish giants. According to reports, the Uruguayan could leave Barcelona in the coming days.
Luis Suarez Set to Leave Barcelona
Suarez to Leave Barcelona After Humiliating Season
The Barcelona striker, who has won it all during his six-year spell at the club, now looks likely to leave this transfer window.
A move for the 33-year-old this summer would not come as a massive shock given the club’s current state. Barcelona are in the process of a major club-wide rebuild and the forward may see this as an ideal time to move on to pastures new.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday that club president Josep Maria Bartomeu doesn’t see the Uruguayan as one of the “untouchables”.
Barça and Suarez Relationship Nearing an End
Bartomeu also suggested that Barça would be willing to sell the third-highest goalscorer in the club’s history.
Suarez would be allowed to leave if an “important bid” was made, he told Spanish media last week.
However, a new twist may have taken place in this transfer saga.
It’s believed that the club are now ready to terminate the forward’s contract with just one-year left on his deal.
New boss Ronald Koeman was given the job of telling Suarez that he was no longer wanted at the Camp Nou – according to RAC1’s Gerard Romero.
Suarez scored 21 goals in 36 appearances for Barça as they recorded their worst points tally since the 2007/08 La Liga season and endured humiliation in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Ajax Keen on Suarez Return
The Uruguayan is attracting interest from a number of clubs, including former employers Ajax.
The Dutch side are reportedly in contact with his agent and keen to bring him back to Amsterdam. Suarez scored 111 goals in just 159 appearances with the Netherlands’ most successful club.
Having won all that’s on offer at the Camp Nou, a new setting and fresh challenges may be attractive for the forward.
