Matty Longstaff has penned down a deal that will keep him at Newcastle United until 2022. This comes after the 20-year-old was subject to both Premier League and European speculation in the last couple of months.
Sky Sports News reported that Newcastle boss Steve Bruce persuaded the midfielder to stay at Newcastle. Bruce is a big fan of the 20-year-old and is central to his plans for the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.

2019/20 Premier League Breakthrough
The academy graduate burst through to first-team action this season and made 15 appearances for the Magpies. Longstaff also scored twice in the Premier League and another in the FA cup
His breakthrough comes a year after his brother Sean Longstaff’s emergence into the Newcastle first-team. The pair first started a Premier League game together in October against Manchester United. It proved to be a significant occasion when Matty’s 25-yard strike won the game for the Magpies.
Eight out of the nine games that the England U20 international played this season were against teams in the top eight. This shows the faith Bruce has in the youngster. If he stays fit, Longstaff’s game time is only going to increase next season and he could become an integral part of Newcastle’s push for the top half of the table.
Premier League and European Clubs Were Waiting
Longstaff’s impressive displays in a Newcastle shirt, coupled with question marks around his contract, meant that a whole host of Premier League and European clubs were interested.
West Ham United and newly-promoted Leeds United had both expressed interest in the midfielder. Meanwhile, in Italy, Udinese made an offer for the 20-year-old and it looked a move ready to happen. But, in a dramatic U-turn, Longstaff has committed to the club that made him.
