Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to miss the remainder of Liverpool’s pre-season programme.

Oxlade-Chamberlain Ruled Out

Blow for Liverpool Pre-Season

The 27-year-old suffered an injury following a challenge in a training session whilst on the Reds’ pre-season tour of Austria. The Englishman  has since returned to Liverpool where he will begin his rehabilitation at Melwood with the club’s medical team.

Klopp Confirms The Bad News

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp confirmed the news to Liverpoolfc.com: ”It looks like it is very similar to what Hendo had, which keeps him out for we don’t know for sure exactly how long, but for sure this pre-season he will not make a game, Arsenal for sure not and then we will see. The next game is probably two weeks later, but I don’t know.”

The German boss went on to say: “We have to wait but it is far away from being perfect, of course. It is really hard for him and hard for us, but it is not to change.”

With Liverpool scheduled to play their first pre-season match of the summer tomorrow as they take on VfB Stuttgart, a match that will take place in Austria, the news of the absence of Oxlade-Chamberlain will come as a blow to Klopp’s preparations.

The England international is almost certainly a doubt for the opening game of the Premier League season against Leeds United, a season which will see Liverpool attempt to defend their first top-flight title for three decades.

The former Arsenal man has had numerous injury issues since joining the club, including one horrific knee ligament issue which ruled him out for the best part of a calendar year.

During Liverpool’s successful 2019/20 the man nicknamed ‘The Ox’ did remain relatively injury-free, making 30 league appearances and 43 in all competitions, adding eight goals along the way.

Now he will hope to get back to fitness as quickly as possible and fight for his place in a hotly contested midfield.
