Charlton Athletic have completed two signings in the last two days. The Addicks, who were relegated from the Championship last season, announced the addition of Conor Washington from Scottish side Hearts earlier today. Meanwhile, midfielder Alex Gilbey joined from fellow League One side MK Dons last night. Both signings were originally blocked by the EFL due to the club’s ongoing ownership issues and a transfer embargo, but have now been allowed to go through following talks between the two parties.

Conor Washington will be a familiar name to many followers of the EFL. Charlton are the 28-year-old’s fifth club he has played for after spells at Newport County, Peterborough United, Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield United (then in the Championship).
His spell with Peterborough at League One level was his most successful. He scored 27 goals in all competitions across three seasons with the Posh.
Following the departure of Lyle Taylor earlier this summer, Washington has Chuks Aneke, Macauley Bonne and Tomer Hemed for company up front currently as he looks to break straight into the first team.

Gilbey’s arrival from League One rivals MK Dons was confirmed last night, ending a three-year association with the club. Despite an injury-hit first year at the Dons, Gilbey went on to record 11 goals in 92 matches for the club – including three in 39 in League Two plus five in last season’s shortened League One campaign.
Prior to joining the Dons, Gilbey spent a season with Wigan Athletic. He scored in the 1-1 pre-season friendly draw with Liverpool and went on to net on his debut against Bristol City.
