First Signing of the Window

The Portuguese defender is the Latics’ first signing of the summer.

His arrival at Boundary Park follows the appointment of Harry Kewell, who replaced Dino Maamria as Oldham boss yesterday. The former Liverpool midfielder has taken over as manager on a one-year deal.

Jombati will bring a wealth of experience to the Oldham defence. He spent much of the last decade plying his trade in the lower echelons of the Football League, most recently with Wycombe Wanderers.

The 32-year-old was a vital part of the Chairboys defence throughout much of his time with the club. He made 185 appearances in total during his time at Adams Park, featuring anywhere across their defence.

However, he saw his minutes on the pitch decrease significantly during the 2019/20 season. He made just seven appearances as Gareth Ainsworth’s side were promoted to the Championship.

Before his six-year spell with Wycombe Wanderers, Jombati spent three years with Cheltenham Town. He made 134 appearances for the Robins, scoring five goals for the Whaddon Road outfit.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the official Oldham Athletic website, Jombati said: “I’m really excited to have moved up here and joined this club. Oldham Athletic is still massive, it has a passionate fanbase and I’m ready to show everyone what I can do out on the pitch.

“I’m a player who can play across the back four and I will always help the team out in any way I can.

“I’ve loved the past few years at Wycombe, but now is the right time for me to have a brand new challenge and I believe my previous experiences have made me a stronger character.”
