Motherwell have announced the signing of Wigan Athletic’s Callum Lang. He joins the Scottish Premier League club on loan until the end of the 2020/21 season. Although, earlier this month, there had been speculation that he would join Motherwell on a permanent deal. This was fuelled by Wigan’s sudden fall into administration.

Lang Cannot Wait to Start
Lang is already pleasing the Motherwell supporters. He is a young striker, with a growing reputation. Plus, he is showing great enthusiasm over his move.
“I can’t wait to get started,” said Lang, as he spoke to the Official Motherwell website.
“I’ve only heard good things about the club. It sounds like the perfect place for me.”
He has also posted a picture on Twitter, showing him wearing the Motherwell shirt.

Who is Callum Lang?
Although he is 21-years of age, he has already featured in over 100 competitive games. However, only five of these have been for Wigan Athletic. His appearance total has increased via season-long loans at Morecambe, Oldham Athletic and Shrewsbury Town.
Lang spent the 2017/18 season at Morecambe, scoring ten goals in 31 appearances. The following season (2018/19), he bettered his goal tally by netting 16 goals in 50 appearances for Oldham.
Last season, he joined Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan. This also represented a step-up in class to League One level from Morecambe and Oldham’s League Two status.
He scored three goals in 20 appearances for Shrewsbury; two of his goals were scored within three games between February 25th – March 7th 2020. Sadly, he was unable to continue his goal-scoring run, as March 7th marked the premature ending of the 2019/20 League One season. This was due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Motherwell Must Thank an Ex-Player
During Lang’s interview with the Official Motherwell website, he revealed that he sought advice over his potential move.
“I spoke to Cédric Kipré about coming here (Motherwell) as well and he spoke very highly of the club,” said Lang.
Kipré currently plays for Wigan, having signed from Motherwell in August 2018.
Lang’s transfer is subject to FA and EFL approval and international clearance. However, he is expected to receive clearance prior to the commencing of the SPL season. If so, Lang could make his debut against Ross County on Monday, August 3rd.
