REPORT: Leeds United Linked With Benfica’s Florentino Luis

Benfica’s Florentino Luis looks like a hot commodity in the current transfer market and newly-promoted Leeds United are the latest team to throw their hat into the ring for his signature, according to Connor O’Neill and Josh Challies of Leeds Live.

Strengthening Their Squad for the Premier League

The midfielder has been linked with a multitude of clubs from across Europe and now Marcelo Bielsa’s men have registered an interest in the youngster.

United will be looking to strengthen their side ahead of the jump up in competition to the Premier League and have firmly set their sights on the 20-year old.

Limited Playing Time at Benfica

Luis has only featured in 21 games for current club Benfica so far in his career, bagging himself one goal from the middle of the field. Even though he hasn’t featured too much for the Portuguese side, his limited time on the pitch for the club has been enough to impress Leeds who are now eager to sign him.

AC Milan Also Keen

They will though face competition from AC Milan. Luis is also very high up on the list of targets for the Serie A side and they could also offer him the chance to play European football for them via the Europa League (Milan are currently sat in sixth place and could rise to fifth, both of which let the club potentially qualify for the Europa League).

However, Leeds are more likely to give the player more gametime, so it is a dilemma Luis will have to consider himself.

Huge £110 Million Release Clause

As for the fee, it is reported that it could be between €20-30 million to try and secure his signature. This is despite the fact that the 20-year old has a whopping £110 million release clause in his contract – which is certainly a fee that neither club will be able to stump up.

However, Benfica are believed to be willing to negotiate a much smaller fee of the €20-30 million that have been suggested and if that is the case, then Leeds are certainly in contention to bring the player to England.
