Bristol Rovers’ summer recruitment has continued with the signing of Jonah Ayunga from non-league side Havant & Waterlooville for an undisclosed fee. Ayunga’s Career
Twenty-three-year-old Ayunga got his first taste of senior football with Dorchester Town in non-league, but he only spent a year there before being snapped up by Brighton & Hove Albion.
His first season was spent out on loan at Burgess Hill Town, and following Brighton’s promotion to the Premier League, he had further loan spells; two in Ireland with Sligo Rovers and Galway United, and then back in England with Poole Town.
He left Brighton in 2018 and signed a permanent deal with Sutton United, but after scoring four goals in 28 games, he was loaned out to Havant & Waterlooville in 2018.
After leaving Sutton, he re-signed for the team where he had been on loan and had a much better spell that previously, helping them to a second-place finish in the National League South, just behind eventual champions Wealdstone.
What Was Said?
Speaking to the club website about the move, Rovers manager Ben Garner said: “Given the season he has just had there was interest from a number of EFL clubs and we are very pleased that we have managed to agree a deal that will see Jonah play here at Rovers.
