REPORT: Leeds United May Move for Edinson Cavani but Zlatan Ibrahimovic Unlikely

Edinson Cavani

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani, speaking to Sky Sports Italia yesterday, discussed the possibility of signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani.

In the same interview, Radrizzani also explained how a move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic could prove to be “difficult” but didn’t rule out a deal for the Swedish striker.

Leeds United Could Make a Move for Edinson Cavani

Interest in Cavani

Uruguayan striker Cavani left PSG on July 1 after his contract expired. The 33-year-old is now a free agent and Radrizzani believes Cavani still has plenty to offer. The Leeds owner also feels a deal could be possible.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Radrizzani said: “In addition to his quality, Cavani could contribute with his physicality and adapt here, but I’ve never talked about him with the coach.

“Having said that, we’ve certainly thought about him and we’ll see, given he’s still available on a free transfer.”

The former PSG player would bring plenty of experience to Leeds. He made over 300 appearances for the French champions. However, he struggled for consistency last season due to fitness concerns and injuries.

Cavani only made 14 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG, scoring four goals and making two assists.

‘Difficult’ Move for Ibrahimovic

While Radrizzani seemed interested in Cavani, he seemed less certain about moving for Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer, admitting a move for the former Manchester United striker would be “difficult”.

In the Sky Italia interview, Radrizzani said: “Ibrahimovic will certainly be difficult. We tried to sign him in January, but he chose to join Milan and the deal vanished.

“Now I think it’s too late, the intensity of English football is different.”

Ibrahimovic returned to AC Milan on loan from LA Galaxy in February. The 38-year-old impressed for his former club in the closing stages of the season.

He made 17 appearances in all competitions, scored eight and provided four assists.
