Huddersfield Town are keen to bring Carlos Corberan to the club to fill their vacant managerial position, as reported by Sky Sports.
Carlos Corberan in Talks Over Huddersfield Town Job
Worked in Cyprus and With the Leeds U23 Side
The 37-year old has yet to really test himself in a top managerial role. The only two clubs that he has held the head coach job at so far in his career are Doxa and Ermis, two teams who play their football in the Cypriot Football League.
However, he has impressed in smaller coaching roles. He is currently in charge of the Leeds United U23 team as well as being part of Marcelo Bielsa’s coaching staff in the first team.
As their manager, he has helped them to the Professional Development League title and helped first-team boss Marcelo Bielsa with his coaching ability as they claimed the Championship title this season too.
Although they would be quite keen to retain as many of the staff and players who helped the club to achieve this promotion back into the Premier League, it is believed that they would be willing to let Corberan leave the club if it means he can further his career.
Gained Experience From Spain and Saudi Arabia
In addition to his time at Leeds, the Spaniard has also worked at Villareal as a fitness coach and has even worked in Saudi Arabia for Al-Ittihad as an assistant manager with the team.
Surprise Sacking of Danny Cowley
The search for a new boss comes after the rather shocking decision to relieve Danny Cowley (and brother Nicky) from his duties as manager of the club.
Despite only joining Huddersfield from Lincoln this season – and despite securing his side’s safety by leading them to a 2-1 win against second-placed West Bromwich Albion – the club decided it was time to put an end to his tenure with the Championship side.
Most Huddersfield fans are amazed by the decision to relieve the Cowley brothers of their roles at the club due to the situation they had inherited when they initially took over.
Saved From Relegation
The club have been struggling near the bottom end of the league but they managed to steady the ship and keep them safe from relegation to League One. With the chance to kick-on and improve again next season, their departure has shocked many.
They’ll now be hoping that Corberan can use his experience at a title-winning side and with the club’s youth teams to take them higher up the table if they do decide to go with the 37-year old.
