Exiles Spell Comes to an End
Matt was a key part of Newport’s success in recent years. The Exiles rose from relegation candidates to play-off finalists in 2018/19. They have also enjoyed many memorable cup runs in recent years, which include a win over Leicester City and holding Tottenham Hotspur to a draw at Rodney Parade.
Now, though, he joins a Forest Green side who will be looking to be among the promotion candidates under Mark Cooper. They were a strong outfit last term but this signing, along with the other six they have made already, has boosted the squad massively in terms of quantity and quality of players.
Matt’s breakthrough came in non-league with Sutton Coldfield Town. He then had a fruitful spell with Kidderminster Harriers before he was handed his chance in the EFL with Fleetwood Town.
Loans at Stevenage and Plymouth Argyle followed before he joined Blackpool in 2016. A further loan at Grimsby Town ensued before his move to Newport.
What Was Said?
Speaking to the club website, Forest Green boss Cooper said: “He knows how to be successful at the level, not old in terms of years, but in games he is vastly experienced.
“Jamille brings a different weapon to our armoury. We have not had a focal point since Christian Doidge left. He can be a target man and gives you another option.”
