Jake Cain Signs Long-Term Deal at Liverpool

Long-Term Deal for Cain

Liverpool have tied down promising midfielder Cain to a new long-term contract. The 18-year-old had already signed a professional contract at Melwood last September.

Cain has been impressive for both Liverpool’s U18 and U23 sides this season. His good form led him to earn his professional debut for the Premier League champions this year.

The attacking-midfielder played the full 90 minutes of Liverpool’s 1-0 FA Cup fourth-round replay win over Shrewsbury.

Liverpool Secure Future of Promising Youngster

Cain, originally from Wigan, has been a standout performer for the Reds’ youth sides this campaign. The youngster was part of their FA Youth Cup-winning team last season and he has since gone from strength to strength.

He has an impressive record in this season’s U18 Premier League, notching up six goals and seven assists in ten appearances. The attacking midfielder was also part of the U18 side that topped their UEFA Youth League group before falling to Benfica in the round of 16.

This fine form saw Cain move up to Liverpool’s U23 team for parts of the season; he netted once during his seven appearances.  Cain has also regularly trained with Jurgen Klopp’s first-team during their title-winning season.

Cain Continues to Rise Through Liverpool’s Ranks

After an impressive 2019/20 season, with many firsts, it is expected that the Englishman is likely to be in and around the first-team squad next term. Having joined the current World champions at the age of just five, it is a remarkable journey.

If Cain does cement a place in Liverpool’s senior squad next season, he’ll be following in the footsteps of many big names.

Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Robbie Fowler and Trent Alexander-Arnold are just a few of the Reds Academy graduates to make it into the first-team setup at Anfield.
