Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk has admitted that his side are interested in signing young Manchester City midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Sheffield Wednesday Keen on Manchester City Youngster
Owls Eye City Youngster
The Owls boss confirmed that the Yorkshire club are in advanced talks with last season’s Premier League champions.
Dele-Bashiru has not yet broken into the City first-team, having been a mainstay in the U23 side this season.
However, Monk is keen to bring youngsters to Hillsborough as he attempts to revitalise his squad.
According to Yorkshire Live, the clubs are in talks over a permanent deal.
Wednesday Boss Confirms Talks With Manchester City
Wednesday boss Monk signalled that they were in the process of negotiating a deal for the attacking midfielder.
He told BBC Radio Sheffield last night that: “When things are concrete, I will say but he is a player that I know and have seen and they are types that we would like to try and bring in.
“There are discussions going on but it is not at a stage where I can say it is concrete or anything like that but, while we are trying to finish the season, we also need to be mindful of it is highly likely to be a quick turnaround.”
Sheffield Wednesday currently sit fifteenth in the Championship, well clear of the drop zone but also 11 points off the play-offs.
Monk, discussing the club’s future plans, added: “We are still unaware of what the transfer window and all these things will look like next season but we know it is highly likely to be short so we are trying to get prepared.
“That transition is coming and, speaking to the club, they have the same ambition as myself and we will try and do it in the right way.”
Manchester City Could Let Academy Prospect Leave
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has made 24 appearances for the Citizens’ U23 side this season, playing the Premier League 2, EFL Trophy and the UEFA Youth League. The obvious next step would be to play senior football and Sheffield Wednesday appear to be offering just that.
Dele-Bashiru’s brother, Tom, also came through the City academy before joining Watford last summer. Another midfielder, he has featured in cup competitions, scoring in the Hornets’ 3-3 FA Cup draw with Tranmere Rovers.
Now, Fisayo, who has already shown glimpses of his potential in youth football, could move on from the Sky Blues too.
