John Terry is the latest name to be linked with the vacant Bristol City job. According to Dominic King of the Daily Mail, the current Aston Villa assistant manager has expressed an interest in the role.
John Terry Linked With Bristol City Job
Several Names Linked
Terry is one of several names linked with the vacant hotseat at Ashton Gate, following the sacking of Lee Johnson.
Johnson was sacked following the Robins’ poor run of form. City had won just one of their last 11 games before his sacking, which saw an end to their play-off hopes.
Several high-profile names have already been linked to the post, including Terry.
The former Chelsea defender is keen to make his move into first-team management, according to the Daily Mirror. Terry joined Dean Smith’s backroom staff following his retirement, and helped Aston Villa earn promotion to the Premier League last season.
However, despite having put his name forward for the job, he will face stern competition. Former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton is also keen, and is reportedly the preferred candidate. The 61-year-old is keen for a return to management after leaving the Seagulls last summer.
Hughton’s experience could make him the ideal candidate for the job. The 61-year-old has earned promotion to the Premier League with three different sides, including winning the title with Newcastle United in 2010.
As well as Hughton, both Phil Neville and Steven Gerrard are also reportedly interested. The former has made contact with the Bristol City board, while Gerrard is also one of the favourites, according to the Bristol Post.
Despite their disappointing season, the Robins remain one of the most exciting prospects in the Championship. There remains the ambition of reaching the Premier League, and the infrastructure of the pitch is likely to attract high-profile figures in football.
