Second Summer Signing in as Many Days
The full-back follows midfielder Sebastian Griesbeck, who joined the club yesterday from 1. FC Heidenheim.
Born in Hannover, the 28-year-old made 74 appearances for the second team and scored 15 goals during his three years at the club.
He then joined Greuther Fürth in 2. Bundesliga, and made over 130 appearances for Die Kleeblätter. During his four year spell, he netted seven times.
In 2017, he made the switch to Düsseldorf. He made 33 appearances as they secured promotion to the top flight, and has secured 95 outings during his time at the club. However, Fortunen were relegated with defeat at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on the final day of the season.
What Was Said
Speaking to the clubs’ official website, Giesselmann said: “I’m returning to the Alte Försterei faster than I thought and I’m looking forward to it.
“The relegation with Fortuna was a very painful moment for me. The fact that I now have the chance to continue to prove myself in the Bundesliga is a huge incentive.
“I’m convinced that I’m up to the task and I’ll give everything to achieve the club’s goals with my new colleagues.”
“With Niko, we have been able to sign a very versatile player with experience in the Bundesliga and we know about his quality. I’m sure that he will quickly find his feet with us and contribute with his experience,” added Oliver Ruhnert, Director for Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin.
