David Dunn has been confirmed as the new manager of League Two new boys Barrow. Ian Evatt left the Bluebirds to take over at Bolton Wanderers last week, but Blackpool assistant head coach Dunn has stepped in, signing a two-year contract, to guide the club during their first year back in the Football League.
David Dunn Takes Over at Barrow
Barrow’s Managerial Change
Ian Evatt was the man who guided Barrow back to the EFL, with his style of play lauded as one of the best in the National League. However, his head was turned by an offer from Bolton, who will be playing Barrow in League Two next season.
Dunn was the bookmaker’s favourite for the job for the majority of the time the position was open. He joins from League One side Blackpool, where he was the assistant head coach to former Liverpool U23s boss Neil Critchley.
Dunn also spent time as the manager of Oldham Athletic in the 2015/16 season.
As a player, Dunn appeared regularly in the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City. He had two spells with Rovers, staying with them during their drop down into the Championship in his second stint.
He also played regularly for the England U21 side and managed one cap for the senior team, coming on as a half-time substitute for Steven Gerrard against Portugal.
Dunn began taking his UEFA A license following the end of his playing career and his first spell as a coach was with the U23s at Blackburn.
What Was Said?
Speaking to the club website, Barrow chairman Paul Hornby said: “As soon as we knew David was available and wanted the position we made him our number one target. He is an extremely talented coach and ticked all the boxes with the owners.
“His football philosophy and style of play is completely suited to how we are setup and he also knows a number of our players, which met our requirements for a seamless transition.
“After meeting David we knew he would be the man to take the club onto the next level.”
