Lincoln City have confirmed their first signing of the summer, with midfielder James Jones joining from Crewe Alexandra on a three-year deal.

Necessary Reinforcement
The centre of midfield is one area where the Imps needed to strengthen this summer.
Several of the midfield quartet were on loan, including Joe Morrell, who starred under Michael Appleton last season.
Fellow loanees Jake Hesketh, Conor Coventry and Liam Bridcutt have all also come to the end of their time with Lincoln. While the latter two are most similar to Jones, permanent reinforcements are a must.
Furthermore, Appleton has also lost Michael Bostwick, Lee Frecklington and Tom Pett, following their expiry of their contracts. Bostwick was the most prominent under Appleton during the 2019/20; however, he suffered multiple injuries last season, and was never quite fully fit.
As a result, Lincoln have moved quickly to secure the services of Jones, who arrives on a free transfer. The 24-year-old made 29 appearances last season for his boyhood club, scoring twice.
What Was Said
Speaking to the official Lincoln City website, Jones said: “I’m delighted to sign for this club and after speaking with the gaffer and Jez, it was a no brainer. The more I found out about the club, the more it seemed like the perfect fit and this was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.
“I’m a box to box midfielder and I’ll always give 100%. I like to get on the ball, run in behind and chip in with goals and assists but I also get back and do my defending too.
“The manager likes to develop young players which was a big selling point for me. As an away player playing here in the past, it’s a tough place to come and there is a great atmosphere here. Playing in front of the Lincoln fans is something that I’m really looking forward to and I can’t wait to get going.”
