Grimsby Town have confirmed that midfielder Max Wright has signed a new two-year deal to remain at Blundell Park.

After waiting for his opportunity to break into the first-team, Wright was finally given the opportunity at the beginning of this season. He has not looked back since.

The 22-year-old has made 29 appearances for the Mariners this season, scoring two goals and registering two assists. He enjoyed a successful spell under current boss Ian Holloway to, including scoring in a 4-2 win over Newport County.

However, he could have featured more frequently this season was it not for injury, where he had a two-month spell on the sidelines towards the end of last season.

What Was Said

Speaking about extending his stay at Blundell Park, the 22-year-old said: “I absolutely can’t wait to get started, I’m a Grimsby lad and I’ve been a hardcore Mariner all my life.

“The fans are everything to me and I want to do it for them. Although I’ve been let down at times in the past, the fans have been brilliant with me and I’ve had nothing but their support, so I want to do it for them”.

High Hopes for Next Season

Under the guidance of experienced Football League boss Ian Holloway, there is high hopes for the Mariners next season.

Grimsby ended the season 15th League Two on 47 points. However, they collected 24 points following Holloway’s arrival. Their average points total since the turn of the year would have seen them finish in the play-off places in the 2018/19 season.

As a result, Wright is looking forward to next season.

“I am determined to get driving and attacking at defences this season,” he said.

“The fans are brilliant with me, the fans’ willingness to urge me on is like power behind me. I work incredibly hard and being scholared every day by the Gaffer means I aim to be the best I can be. Make no mistake, I will be giving everything. You’ve got to be ambitious and got to be positive and by that, you’ve got to believe that you can make attractive performances and promotion happen.”
