REPORT: Mikel Arteta Hints at Permanent Deal for Dani Ceballos

Following Arsenal’s 4-0 win against Norwich City, Mikel Arteta hinted that a permanent deal could be on the cards for loanee Dani Ceballos after another impressive performance.

Ceballos suggested last week that staying in the Premier League was an option. Although, he didn’t rule out a move to former club, Real Betis.

What Was Said?

Speaking after his teams’ victory, Arteta said: “Both clubs have been in communication.

“I really like Dani and what he brings to the team. When I joined he wasn’t available because he had a difficult injury.

“He’s understanding what we are trying to do really, really nicely and he has a big personality to play and take the ball in any area of the field and give us the continuity that we need as a team to control the games better, but as well without the ball.

“The running that he’s putting in, the tackles, every time with the interceptions, his desire to win that ball back and help the team, he’s improved so much and he looks a really good player at the moment.”

What Could This Mean for Matteo Guendouzi?

Matteo Guendouzi has been out of favour since escaping a ban for grabbing Brighton’s Neal Maupay by the throat. Since then he has not featured for the Gunners and his future looks in certain doubt.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, Arsenal have put out feelers to see if there’s any interest in Guendouzi. Selling the midfielder could be used as a way to fund signings due to the depleted transfer budget that Arsenal have.

How Much Would Ceballos Cost and Can Arsenal Afford Him?

Arsenal have already made the loan deals of Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares permanent. However, there was an option to buy Mari in his loan deal and Cedric’s contract was up at Southampton, therefore Arsenal didn’t need to fork out too much for these two.

There isn’t an option to buy in the Ceballos loan deal. According to The Athletic, when Arsenal enquired last summer, they were told that they would want €40 million. Real Madrid’s stance would have unlikely changed so Arsenal are looking at close to £36 million for the Spanish international.

This could come from the sale of Guendouzi who could be sacrificed to make way for a  permanent deal for Ceballos.
