3-0 Victory for the Baggies

The home side came into this one on the back of the 2-1 win away at Bristol City and started the stronger of the two sides. Their best chance came in the tenth minute when Connor Wickham’s header from Jacob Murphy’s corner hit the side netting

The Baggies had very little attempts on goal in the first half, but they got their break with nine minutes from the interval.

Moses Odubajo brought down Dara O’Shea in the area and conceded a penalty.  Charlie Austin placed it in the bottom corner and gave West Brom the lead.

Slaven Bilic’s side were beginning to find their groove and doubled their lead just before the hour mark. Periera started and finished the move. He released Callum Robinson who looked in on goal but was then surrounded by Wednesday players. Robinson played it to Gibbs out wide. He put in a pin-point cross to Pereira, who crept his way into the 18-yard box unmarked and headed it past Joe Wildsmith.

With just five minutes left and West Brom wrapped up the game. Kamil Grosicki played it out wide to Pereira, whose shot was too powerful for Wildsmith.

Matheus Pereira the Key Man Once Again

The On-Loan Sporting Lisbon midfielder has been a real asset for West Bromwich Albion this season.

The 24-year-old has now been involved in a number of the Baggies’ goals this season, scoring eight, and making 13 assists.

Important Result for Bilic

From looking at the match facts, you’d be thinking that Wednesday should have got something out of the match. But in truth, it was quite a comfortable night for ‘keeper Sam Johnstone.

He was only really threatened on three occasions last night with Wednesday finding it difficult to break down the resilient West Brom back four.

Bilic’s men had not scored in three matches coming into this one. No doubt he was impressed by his side’s potency in front of goal.

It was a huge win for West Brom, topped by the fact that Leeds United slipped up on Tuesday and, with Brentford hot on their heels, it was important they got back on track.

They find themselves just one point behind Leeds in the Championship.
