The Deal
Nkounkou has signed a three-year contract with the Toffees after leaving his boyhood club. The teenager came through the ranks at Marseille and played in their B team last season.
Speaking to the club website, director of football Marcel Brands said: “Niels is a young, talented player with good technical and physical skills. We have been following him for months.
“Hopefully he can learn a lot from Lucas Digne and Leighton Baines, as well as Carlo Ancelotti and David Unsworth, and follow the same pathway into the first team the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Mason Holgate have taken in recent years.”
Another Youngster Leaves
While one young player arrives from France, another has departed Everton to ply their trade across the Channel.
Scotland youth international Fraser Hornby this morning completed his move to Reims, who finished this season in sixth place, level on points with fifth-place Nice.
Hornby started his career with hometown club Northampton Town before being snapped up by Everton in 2017. He did not make a Premier League appearance for the Toffees but featured as a substitute in their 2017/18 Europa League campaign.
He also spent time out on loan at Belgian First Division A side Kortrijk, making 12 appearances in their campaign and contributing three goals. He added a further two appearances and one goal in cup competitions.
Hornby is yet to make a senior appearance for Scotland but has scored six times in 13 appearances for the U21 team.
