Sheffield Wednesday welcome West Bromwich Albion to Hillsborough, with the Baggies aiming to get back to winning ways.
West Bromwich Albion Hope to Get Back on Track Against Sheffield Wednesday
Wednesday Better Since Restart
The Owls picked up a much needed three points on Sunday, winning 2-1 away at Bristol City. It was their first win since the Championship season restarted, and only their second win since January 12.
It has been a dismal run which has seen Garry Monk’s plummet down the table and move out of contention for a place in the play-offs.
But, they are unbeaten since the season restarted and will be hoping that striker Connor Wickham continues his good form. The on-loan Crystal Palace star has scored in both of the Owls’ matches since the season’s break.
West Bromwich Albion Looking Over Their Shoulder
West Brom‘s form hasn’t been great either. Their last victory was a 2-0 home win over Preston North End in February. It moved them seven points clear at the top of the Championship, and ten points clear of the play-off positions.
However, a tiny bit of uncertainty has crept in at the Hawthorns. A 1-0 defeat at Brentford on Friday night has left Slaven Bilic’s men without a win or a goal in their last four games.
It has also seen West Brom lose their position at the top of the table, while the Bees are now just five points behind the Midlands’ side. With Brentford playing 24 hours earlier at Reading, the gap between the two sides could be down to just two points.
Bilic knows if his side are to win promotion to the Premier League, they cannot afford any more slip-ups.
Team News
Sheffield Wednesday have lost Steven Fletcher, Sam Winnall, Morgan Fox, Sam Hutchinson and Fernando Forestieri, who are set to be released on June 30. However, they do go into this one, without any injuries.
West Brom will have a strong squad for their trip to South Yorkshire. Their only known injury is Jonathan Leko who will miss the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.
Previous Meeting
The Baggies came out on top in the reverse fixture back in November. Wednesday looked set to be heading away from the Black County with a draw. However, the Baggies were awarded a penalty after Matheus Periera was brought down by Owls’ keeper Kieren Westwood, two minutes from time.
Charlie Austin stepped up and slotted the penalty past the Republic of Ireland international, to give West Brom a 2-1 win.
