Academy Stars Staying On
Barnett signed his first professional contract with the club in 2017 after coming through the ranks at the academy. He spent time out on loan at National League North side AFC Telford United last season in order to gain experience but will be looking to break into Sam Ricketts’ side when League One football returns.
Gregory, meanwhile, spent the second half of this season on loan at Kidderminster Harriers having impressed in the youth teams at Shrewsbury. This new deal will see him take a further step into the first-team environment at the club and may see him add to his appearance on the bench in the EFL Trophy game against Coventry City.
Ricketts Delighted Pair Are Staying
Speaking to the club website, Ricketts said of Barnett’s new deal: “I’m really pleased that Barney has signed his new deal. As a club, we really like to try and promote the youth coming through and we want to get as many local lads as we can coming through the academy and into the first team.
“Barney has made great strides since signing his first deal with the club. He’s been out on loan a couple of times and I’ve seen him develop in that time so I’m now looking forward to seeing him push on next season.”
On Gregory, he added: “I’m really delighted that Cam is staying at the club. Similar to Ryan Barnett who also signed today, Cam is a young player who has come through the academy. He’s been on loan this year and done really well so we’re really keen to keep him and watch how he progresses and develops.”
