Woolfenden was born in Ipswich and started his career with the side too, playing for eight years in the club’s academy. He signed his first professional contract at the start of the 2017/18 season and, after making his debut in the League Cup against Luton Town, he joined non-league side Bromley on loan for five months.

The 21-year-old then spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan in League Two with Swindon Town, where he was a regular in the side. He made 32 appearances in the league and contributed two goals as the Robins finished 13th.

He has since become a regular for Ipswich after their relegation to League One. He has played 41 times in total for his hometown club and scored his first goal in the 1-0 win over Lincoln City in January. The string of fine performances would have put Woolfenden in the running for the club’s Player of the Year award.

This new deal for Woolfenden comes just over a year after he signed a three-year contract with the club, while he was still on loan at Swindon.
