Millwall Host Swansea City at The Den

Millwall host Swansea City at The Den this evening. Both sides are closely matched in the Championship, with just one point between them. They also share the same goal difference. They are two of many teams looking to sneak into the play-off places and this game could prove very important.

Christian Mbulu, who tragically passed away, aged just 23, last month, will be remembered in the build-up and during the game. Millwall players will wear t-shirts showing a picture of their former player and a minute’s silence will be conducted prior to kick-off. They will also wear black armbands during the game. The club will pay tribute to Mbulu in the matchday programme.

Play-Off Outsiders Collide

Millwall sit in 11th place, with Swansea City just a single point ahead of them in tenth. Both teams have the same goal difference, but they also have very similar goals scored and conceded ratio. Swansea have scored 49 goals in the Championship this season, Millwall 46. Whilst, Swansea conceded 46 and Millwall have conceded 43.

This has all the makings for a very tight game. They’re also paired in only winning one of their last five. If either of them are to make the playoffs, someone is going to have to start picking up consistent wins.

Having gone into the break with a 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest, Millwall are yet to win since the return of football. Despite taking the lead against Derby, they lost the first game back 3-2. They were then held by relegation-threatened Barnsley at Oakwell.

Swansea, however, returned with a win at Middlesbrough. They did fail to follow it up, though. Losing 1-0 to Luton Town at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier in the season, Millwall won the reverse fixture by one goal to nil. That was their first win over Swansea City since March 2008, back in League One.

No Fresh Concerns for Swansea

Gary Rowett started Shaun Hutchinson and had Alex Pearce on the bench against Barnsley on Saturday, they will both be further assessed ahead of the game. Ben Thompson also returned to action as a late substitute and could feature again. Elsewhere, Matt Smith could return to the starting line-up.

For the Swans, Jordan Garrick is suspended after being sent off against Luton Town. Otherwise, Steve Cooper’s side have no fresh injury concerns.

Swansea to Edge an Away Victory

Millwall are hard to fancy here, having taken just three points from their last five Championship home games. Swansea can restore order and gain revenge for the home loss in November.

Prediction: Millwall 1-2 Swansea City
