At 20 years of age, K.A.A. Gent player Jonathan David has established himself amongst North America’s most promising players. An amateur two years ago, the midfielder now has top teams from all across Europe interested in his qualities. Germany looks to be at the top of the list for his next move. But, he could be tempted to other destinations. Nevertheless, his club won’t let him go for a small fee.

Making Heads Turn
This season, the attacking midfielder has contributed to 33 goals in all competitions; he has scored 23 himself for his club. 18 of these goals came in the Belgian Jupiler League, making him joint top scorer with Royal Antwerp player Dieumerci Mbokani. He has also helped Gent get through the Europa League qualification rounds. They finished top of Group I. But, they were then eliminated in the round of 32 by AS Roma, 2-1 on aggregate.
His international record for Canada is also impeccable. While trying to stay out of the shadow of Bayern left-back Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David has managed to score 11 goals in his 12 senior appearances for the national team. He has also contributed 5 assists for Canada, whilst playing in both the centre-forward role and on the wings. His stats speak for themselves. With these stats, combined with his potential, it’s easy to understand why a move is on the way for the 20-year-old.
Eyes Set on the Bundesliga
Whilst rumours with Jonathan David’s name are on the rise, the Canadian is working hard to help his current team win trophies. Speaking to Belgian outlet Sporza, he expressed that he is “fully focused on Gent and want to win as many competitions as possible here.”
He also mentioned that “clubs with an interest must speak with my agents.” According to Onefootball, his representatives have met with a plethora of teams, including Arsenal, Olympique Lyon, Manchester United and AC Milan.
These teams might miss out on the promising attacker, as he told Het Laatste Nieuws “the Bundesliga would be ideal.” As big clubs line up to make a bid, Gent’s managing director Michel Louangie says the club “will not let such a player go for 25 million,” which appears to be the amount offered by Borussia Mönchengladbach.
K.A.A. Gent is desperate to keep Jonathan David in their side. But, the player’s agent thinks its time for him to move. Alphonso Davies has paved the way for Canadians in the Bundesliga, and it seems his international team-mate is likely to follow in his footsteps.
