Stevenage have completed the signing of striker Femi Akinwande. The 24-year-old had spells with both Braintree Town and Billericay Town last season, scoring 12 goals. He becomes the second striker this week to join the club after the arrival of Inih Effiong.

Career So Far

Akinwande’s youth career began with Millwall, where he spent nine years between 2004 and 2013. He left the club before making any senior appearances for them, instead joining Dartford’s youth set-up.

Two years at Dartford yielding one appearance for the first team. In 2015, he had spells with Fisher and Maldon & Tiptree before signing for Football League side Colchester United.

He failed to really break into the side at the U’s, making three appearances and having loans at Bishop’s Stortford, Maldon & Tiptree and East Thurrock United.

He then joined East Thurrock permanently before having a year at Concord Rangers in the 2017/18 season.

With Stevenage looking likely to be relegated to the National League, it’s not quite a Football League return for Akinwande. However, he will be hoping to fire Boro to success in the fifth tier should the relegation go through.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the club website, Akinwande said of the move: “It feels very, very good. I was waiting for a full-time opportunity and when I spoke to the gaffer it was a no-brainer to join. He said he has seen my clips and he sent somebody down to watch a few of my games and he was impressed, so I am just very grateful for the opportunity.”

Manager Alex Revell added: “He has shown this season what a talent he is scoring 12 goals and impressing with his pace, power and trickery. What he has achieved this season proves what a determined individual he is and he fully deserves his opportunity to come in and showcase his talents, but what really excites me is his burning desire to come in every day and work as hard as he can to improve and make the most of his opportunity.”
