Derby County have reached agreements with a handful of players to extend their contracts that were due to expire at the end of the month.
The club had until June 30th to arrange deals with a number of players so that they were available for the remainder of the season.
But the Rams, who sit three points outside the play-offs, are still discussing the futures of some first-team players.
Derby County Extend Contracts of Three Players
Rams Retain Defenders
Curtis Davies and Craig Forsyth have agreed on deals to keep them at the club until 2021 and 2022 respectively.
35-year-old Davies joined the East Midlands club three years ago and has been captain for much of that time.
Meanwhile, Forsyth’s new deal will take his time at the club to ten seasons, having joined from Watford in 2013.
Despite numerous long-term injury setbacks, the Scot made his 200th club appearance last weekend in Derby’s 3-2 win over Millwall.
Derby Continue Talks With Martin
Phillip Cocu’s side have also confirmed a short-term deal with striker Chris Martin until the end of the season.
The club appears keen to keep Martin at the club beyond this summer after impressive performances this season.
With the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the transfer market, a new contract for the forward seems likely.
Huddlestone Wants Player-Coach Role
However, no deal has yet been struck between Derby and veteran midfielder Tom Huddlestone.
Huddlestone, who began his career with Derby before returning in 2017, is keen to go into coaching upon his retirement and this could be an obstacle in talks.
“[Huddlestone] would be open to something revolving around a two-year deal where the second season would see him work in more of a player-coach capacity.”, according to The Athletic.
Derby did not offer a new contract to midfielder Ikechi Anya and the 32-year-old will leave the club on June 30. The Scotsman had not played for the Rams since May 2018.
