According to reports from Italian publication Corriere Dello Sport, Liverpool have made a bid of £54 million for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly as they look to add to their already impressive backline.
The Senegalese defender has been one of the most in-demand players for the last few years, with rumours circulating of a move to a number of clubs in the Premier League, with both Manchester United and Chelsea also linked with the defender.
However, Napoli are likely to reject this offer, with further reports from the Express suggesting that the Italian clubs president, Aurelio De Laurentiis will not sell for any less than £90 million.

Will Napoli look to sell the defender?
Koulibaly joined Napoli in 2014 and since then has become one of the world’s best defenders. If Napoli were to cash in on the defender now they could be looking at close to £90 million.
Addressing transfer rumours in January, De Laurentiis told Italian outlet Corriere Del Mezzogiorno: “We won’t sell Koulibaly in January.
“But the time will come where we can’t refuse any other indecent offers. We always invest, but with criteria.”
It is widely rumoured that Napoli rejected £95 million for the defender in January. However, their stance has changed and now seem to be happy to make a deal for a similar amount.
Other clubs interested?
The club that was rumoured to have made this £95 million bid was Manchester United.
United have been linked with Kalidou Koulibaly for a number of years. If they decide to offer something similar to the money they were happy to throw at Napoli in January, then we could be seeing Koulibaly on the red side of Manchester next season.
Another club rumoured to be interested is Chelsea, who like Manchester United, have always been a club linked with Koulibaly. However, due to the big-money signings of both Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, this move now would be less likely to happen.
Liverpool restricting their summer spending
This bid by Liverpool seems to come as a bit of a surprise for football fans. After rumoured to be favourites to land Werner this summer, they decided against activating his release clause of £47.5 million.
According to the Liverpool Echo, this is due to the ongoing financial uncertainty due to the Coronavirus outbreak. From this, reports that a £54 million bid was made for the defender has come as a bit of a shock.
