Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martínez has caught the eye of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Barcelona the front-runners. Speaking on Sky Sports (via Fabrizio Romano), Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta said there was interest, but the Argentine has “never asked to leave the club.”
Inter Milan Sticking to Stance on Lautaro Martinez
A Determined Barcelona
Why are Barcelona willing to pay such a huge fee, when they have well-known financial issues and will most definitely need to sell players to fund a deal?
Lautaro Martínez has the potential and skill-set to become one of the best strikers in the world. He has shown his class this season, with 17 goals in all competitions.
Martínez will come in as Luis Suarez’s eventual replacement with the Uruguayan declining. Lionel Messi isn’t getting any younger either, so Barcelona will need to start planning for the future, and he is the most suitable candidate.
He seems to flourish in a two-man strike force as seen with his deadly partnership with Romelu Lukaku. The duo have 39 goals in all competitions this season. Martínez will have the two perfect mentors in Messi and Suarez for him to learn off and improve his game. At 22 years of age he scored five goals in the Champions League group stages including goals at Dortmund and the Nou Camp.
Time to Make a Move
Barcelona will struggle to finance a move for the striker. Players like Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho have been linked with moves away which could be enough to finance a deal for the Inter striker. It’s it too much for a striker who’s only had one standout season? Probably. To stay at the top, Barcelona will need to invest in their best talent around the world. However, debates over finances will continue to rumble on. As a result, it could see Lautaro Martinez remain with Inter Milan.
