‘To Pursue Other Options’

The Robins statement confirmed that the on-loan midfielder had his loan spell cut short to ‘pursue other options’.

Clubs in England have up until Tuesday 23 June to extend any deals that are set to expire on June 30.

Bristol City did have the option to extend Henriksen’s loan from fellow Championship club Hull City. However, they have opted to cut it short.

Speaking to the official Bristol City website, manager Lee Johnson said: “Markus has shown his class by making himself available until June 30th when his loan spell expires. He has other options on the table and we have allowed him to leave now. He goes with our blessing.”

The Norwegian is also out of contract at parent club Hull, and they are unlikely to extend that beyond the end of this month.

Limited Impact at Bristol City

Despite his exemplary attitude making an impression at Ashton Gate, he failed to make an impact on the pitch.

He made just four appearances for the club, all of which came before the Coronavirus pandemic suspended all football.

During those four games, the 27-year-old largely went unnoticed in midfield. Henriksen averaged a pass completion rate of just 69.2%, and lacked any sort of creativity going forward.

However, his defensive statistics were slightly better. The Norwegian completed an average of 1.5 tackles per game, and made almost three clearances per game.

Henriksen, however, did not feature in Lee Johnson’s plans going forward. As a result, they have decided to cut his loan short in order for him to find a new club.

The 27-year-old did not feature in the 20-man Robins squad that lost 3-1 to Blackburn Rovers in the Championship yesterday.
