Forest Green Rovers have confirmed their released and retained list, with nine players set to depart the League Two club.
Forest Green Rovers Announce Released and Retained List
Who Has Been Released?
Former Leicester City defender Matt Mills is one of the nine players who have been released by the club.
The 33-year-old arrived at The New Lawn following a short spell with Indian club Pune City. He made 20 appearances during his solitary season with the League Two side, having also taken up a coaching role under Mark Cooper.
Fellow defender Farrend Rawson also been released, despite enjoying a successful two-and-a-half season spell with the club. Rawson was part of the side that reached the play-off semi-finals last season, where they eventually lost to Tranmere Rovers.
Dayle Grubb, Liam Shephard and Elliot Frear have also been let go. Shephard is perhaps the most recognisable departure of the trio, having made 22 appearances. However, none of them will be particularly missed by Mark Cooper, as they were not out and out first-team players.
Also departing The New Lawn are George Williams, Junior Mondal and Kevin Dawson.
Who Is Staying?
Chris Stokes, Nathan McGinley and Joseph Mills have all been offered contracts to remain at The New Lawn for at least another season. The trio were all out of contract this summer.
Goalkeepers Adam Smith and Lewis Thomas have been retained by the club. 21-year-old Thomas edged Smith for the number one spot last season, featuring 15 times.
It is likely to be a close fought race for the starting spot in goal next season, as Forest Green will be looking to earn promotion to League One. Smith is the more experienced of the two, however, Mark Cooper may have found his preferred number one.
Ebou Adams is another player who has also retained by the club. The midfielder was a mainstay in the Cooper’s side this season, making 39 appearances in all competitions.
In full, remaining at the club are:
Adam Smith
Ebou Adams
Lewis Thomas
Liam Kitching
Matty Stevens
Shawn McCoulsky
Udoka Godwin-Malife.
