Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is hoping to sign one of his former players this summer with the Premier League outfit eyeing up a move for Juventus central midfielder, Adrien Rabiot, according to Tuttosport.
The 25-year-old only joined the Old Lady last summer, but L’Equipe have previously reported that the Serie A side are already looking to offload the France international.
REPORT: Everton Looking to Sign Juventus Midfielder Adrien Rabiot
Rabiot has Worked Alongside Ancelotti Before
It was the Toffee’s manager that handed the midfielder his debut at Paris Saint-Germain in 2012 as a 17-year-old – the club he made over 200 appearances for over a seven-year spell.
But his tenure with the French champions ended in controversy. The midfielder fell out with manager Thomas Tuchel before seeing his contract expire.
Trouble in Turin
Following the expiry of his PSG contract, Rabiot joined Serie A champions Juventus on a free transfer. But game time this season has been limited, with just 24 appearances in all competitions for the Frenchman.
Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri has a plethora of talent in the middle of the park, and competition for places has been an issue this season. The fact he has failed to score or provide any assists this season has also been a contributing factor.
Also, it has been reported that the midfielder often reports back to training later than most of his team-mates. Although this isn’t a punishable offence at the club, it is the epitome of his Turin tenure.
Everton to Offer a Solution?
Having worked alongside Ancelotti before, the new-look Everton regime can start to attract players of Rabiot’s quality. However, a major issue remains his wages. Rabiot reportedly penned a five-year deal worth €7.5 million per season after-tax, and this is something Everton will need to adjust.
