Mauro Icardi is set to have his loan move in Paris made permanent by the Ligue 1 champions, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
REPORT: Mauro Icardi Set to Sign Permanently for Paris Saint-Germain
PSG signed Mauro Icardi in a season-long loan from Inter Milan last summer. The deal included an option to buy and for which the opportunity expires on May 31. However, the two clubs have come to an agreement on a €57m transfer fee, €7m of which will be paid in add-ons. Around €4m of the add-ons are said to be practically guaranteed.
This is a move that will no doubt be positive for all parties. PSG are keeping a player that scored 20 goals for them in 2019/20, even despite the abrupt ending of the Ligue 1 season. Whereas, Icardi and Inter, despite their long association with each other are to part ways, much to the delight of either party with the troubling events towards the end of Icardi’s years at San Siro.
Icardi has already signed his contract and only the last few details remain to be filed on Saturday.
Interesting Transfer Fee
The transfer fee will be of a lot of interest. Everyone in the football world will be keeping an eye on this transfer fee as uncertain times are ahead, due to the financial effects of the coronavirus pandemic. This could potentially be the highest transfer fee we see change hands this summer. Only time will tell for sure. Certainly, the next few transfers will bring added information on the business side of football, for buying and selling clubs.
Continued Success for Icardi
Icardi will be looking to continue his success in Paris. Granted, Paris Saint-Germain have been handed the Ligue 1 title, due to unforeseen circumstances this season. But it would be difficult to say they weren’t worthy champions, being 12 points clear with a game in hand.
Despite making over 200 appearances for the Nerazzurri, Icardi’s time in Milan was trophy-less. One would expect the Argentine forward, 27, to gain further medals in France.
If the competition manages to return, PSG also have it all to play for in Europe, having already qualified for the quarter-finals, with a 3-2 aggregate win over German giants Borussia Dortmund. Icardi will be looking to extend his tally of five goals in six games in Europe’s elite competition.
Cavani Future Could be Affected
Icardi’s permanent addition may leave less room for Edinson Cavani, who’s contract expires shortly. The Uruguayan forward has reportedly been waiting to see if PSG will offer him an extension before making a decision on his future. Cavani is sure to have plenty of suitors, especially with clubs looking to avoid heavy spending. The 33-year-old striker has also been linked with Inter Milan and could go in the reverse direction of his South American compatriot.
