Nathan Jones Returns to Luton Town

Nathan Jones has been confirmed as the new Luton Town boss, returning to the club he left in early 2019. Luton, who sit second bottom of the Championship, parted company with Graeme Jones back in April, with the club feeling the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Nathan Jones Makes Luton Town Return

Jones’ Previous Spell

Jones previously spent three years with the Hatters between 2016 and 2019. Under his tenure, the club finished fourth in League Two in 2016/17, losing out to Blackpool in the play-offs. They went one better in the next campaign though, securing automatic promotion by finishing second – five points behind winners Accrington Stanley.

The Welshman continued to perform well with the Bedfordshire club and they were well on their way to the League One title before he was poached by second-tier side Stoke City. Mick Harford took over the reins at Luton and helped them secure the title.

A Poor Period at Stoke

Jones struggled at Stoke after joining them in January 2019. He only just kept them in the division, following their relegation from the Premier League.

In the 2019/20 season, after just two wins from their opening 14 games, Jones was sacked on November 1.

Return to Luton

Relations between Jones and the Luton fans soured after his departure for Stoke. However, given what he achieved at the club in such a short space of time, that relationship could be quickly repaired, regardless of which league they end up in for next season.

Some reports even suggest that Jones took training at the club this morning ahead of his return.

It’s currently unknown whether Jones will have a chance to keep Luton in the Championship or whether they will be relegated based on their current position.
