Will Bailey Replace Sané?

Leroy Sané wants to leave City for Munich. According to recent reports from Bild, the German winger will give up 30% of his wages to secure a move to the German champions in the coming months.

With Sané’s departure imminent, Citizen’s boss Pep Guardiola reportedly wants to sign Bailey as his replacement.

However, the 22-year-old midfielder will prove costly for City with Leverkusen. The Bundesliga club have  placed a €50 million price tag on the Jamaica international.

Bailey’s Flexibility Appeals to Guardiola

Bailey appears to be a suitable replacement for Sané. Although Sané’s prefers to play on the left-wing, Bailey can play in both left and the right-wing roles. He also came on as a substitute to make a cameo appearance as a striker earlier in the season.

This type of flexibility would suit City’s quick, inter-changing positions in the final third. Guardiola may be able to use Bailey to get more  Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus.

The 22-year-old scored seven goals and made one assist in 25 appearances for Leverkusen in all competitions this season.

Competition From Arsenal

Despite City’s interest in Bailey, reports from Bild suggest that Arsenal may also be in the running for the 22-year-old.

However, City appears to be leading the race as their superior finances could prove to be the difference in paying the €50 million transfer fee.

Bailey’s current contract with Leverkusen expires in 2023. Therefore, a substantial fee will be required to prise him away from the Bundesliga club.
