Latest Announcement After Fresh Tests

The announcement comes after the latest round of testing in the Premier League.

From 996 tests conducted, only two members of staff across all 20 clubs had tested positive for the virus.

In the last round of testing, there were 776 members of staff were tested, with six returning positive. The Premier League has confirmed that these six cases are not included in the latest round of figures.

Testing is part of the protocol of the Premier League’s plans to resume top-flight action. It is unclear, as of yet, whether there needs to be no new cases. However, players are continuing to train with a view to action returning in June.

A return to training, however, is also being met with caution. Both Watford’s Troy Deeney and Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante have both presented concerns about the return to football.

Club Statement

Bournemouth elected not to name the player out of respect to him and his family.

A statement on the club website read: “AFC Bournemouth can confirm that one of its players has tested positive for Covid-19, following the club’s second round of testing.

“Medical confidentiality means the player’s name will not be disclosed, and the club asks for this to be respected.

“In line with Premier League protocols regarding positive tests, he will self-isolate for a period of seven days before being tested again at a later date.

“Following strict adherence of the Premier League’s return to training regulations, the club’s training ground remains a safe working environment for players and backroom staff, who will continue to be tested for Covid-19 twice per week.”

The other Premier League staff member who has tested positive is yet to be named.
