Manchester United were on track for a fantastic end to the season and a productive transfer market to accelerate their rebuild when the Coronavirus struck. It has left uncertainty over a potential new mentality to completing deals, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently confirmed that there will be no rushing into proceedings with a change in the Manchester United transfer policy.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Tells Manchester United Transfer Policy for the Summer
What He Said
Speaking to the United We Stand Magazine (via The Express), Solskjaer gave a comprehensive guide to how the Red Devils will conduct their transfer activity during these uncertain times.
”I’d rather have a hole in the squad than an a**hole,” Solskjaer said. “Personality is so important. We’re a team in a team environment. You want players to have a bit of ego and edge but they have to be able to adapt.
“In March 2019, players were physically tired, mentally tired and we had injuries. The players started with negative thinking, whereas now it’s positive thinking.
“There were other things I didn’t like last year, some personal agendas which couldn’t be sorted out until the summer.
“There will always be players who want to play more in football, but if a team is to be successful, then players have to be available at different times. I feel in this group we don’t have one bad apple.”
Showing in Previous Moves
This attitude is reflected in Solskjaer’s previous transfers at the club. Last summer, the Norwegian signed Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Harry Maguire. A successful January window followed this, with Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo the two additions
All of these players have shown to have a positive impact on the United side, in particular Maguire and Fernandes.
The former of these two became captain of the side in January, only a few months after signing, while the latter has shown to have an incredible influence on so many players in Manchester, improving their form and getting some out of complete slumps.
All of these moves show how meticulous Solskjaer is in the transfer window; he makes sure his signings fit well with the squad. In addition, he has now revealed that there will be no rush to get a deal through come the transfer window.
