Dele’s Rise to Stardom
Dele Alli broke into football stardom by impressing at MK Dons. He was born and raised in Milton Keynes, where he broke into the first team ranks from the youth academy at MK Dons. There, he caught the eye of Tottenham Hotspur. This was in the 2014/5 season, with the North London outfit signing the player in February.
He was initially sent back to MK Dons on loan. In the next season, he made his Spurs debut against Manchester United as a substitute. His full debut came in an away match at Sunderland.
Within his first 18 Premier League appearances, he scored five goals and notched three assists. From this brilliant start, the young ended his season controversially by punching Claudio Yacob off the ball. This signifies the spark inside Dele, who can be a fiery yet exciting player.
Dele would return to face his boyhood club in an EFL Cup tie in September 2018. He was the captain of his side, scoring two crucial penalties on the night to send Spurs through.
Five years on, and Dele Alli is still an integral part of Tottenham’s team. This season, he has operated slightly differently under Mourinho; he now plays a behind the striker role that gives him more creative licence. Throughout his time at the club, he has sometimes struggled with injury. Other times his form has been inconsistent. But, at the height of his game, he is able to jink past players, make decisive passes and score fabulous goals.
