West Ham United may have to allow another promising youngster leave in the summer for a cut-price, with Sheffield Wednesday eyeing up a move for Nathan Holland, according to reports from the Football Insider.
West Ham United May be Forced to Sell Nathan Holland
Sheffield Wednesday Show Interest
According to the reports, Sheffield Wednesday showed interest in the 21-year-old while on loan at Oxford United earlier in the season as they prepared a summer move.
The fee was reported to be around £2 million but, following the outbreak of the coronavirus, the Hammers may be enforced to sell their star youngster for half that amount.
The youngster has a deal with West Ham which isn’t due to expire until the summer of 2022, but it looks increasingly likely that manager David Moyes doesn’t see a future for him at the London Stadium.
Loan Spell at Oxford United
Holland joined the U’s in January on loan from the Hammers. He made 12 appearances and scored three times, including a last-minute equaliser as Oxford came from two goals down to force extra time in an FA Cup fourth replay against Newcastle United.
Oxford would have been hopeful of retaining the youngsters’ services for next season, but with the
uncertainty over the outcome of League One and Two, a move to the Championship could suit the 21-year-old.
West Ham Woes
Holland has made just four senior appearances for the Hammers under two different managers. The loan move was beneficial for the club and player, but like many other West Ham youngsters in previous seasons, he could depart permanently.
Having impressed in the Premier League 2 with 11 goals and six assists from 12 games, the winger clearly has the ability, something backed up by his spell in Oxfordshire.
