The latest from Turin is that Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Juventus until 2022. Tuttosport report that the player is happy at the club and does not wish to leave yet.
REPORT: Cristiano Ronaldo to Honour Juventus Contract Until 2022
The Portuguese superstar joined Juventus in 2018; he now seemingly plans to play at least four seasons at Juventus. So far he has made 53 Serie A appearances scoring 42 goals.
There were rumours circulating earlier this month in relation to a potential return to Manchester United. But, for now, this isn’t a likely move. This isn’t to say that an eventual return may happen, of course. It would be interesting to see how a 37-year-old Ronaldo would attract for such a deal in 2022.
Even at the age of 35, Ronaldo is scoring hatfuls of goals; he has scored 25 goals and has notched four assists in all 32 appearances thus far. With the current crisis, he may not get to finish up on what was shaping up to be another fantastic season.
The Sun claim that Juventus would want around £62.5 million to tease the forward away. Along with his high wages, Ronaldo would be that kind of marquee signing that Ed Woodward was ruling out.
Full Circle
There does seem to be a persistent story for a big return for Ronaldo. But, it might all be just a story. When a superstar departs, it isn’t just the fans that hope and wish for a big return. A lesser example would be Gareth Bale and Spurs; since joining Real Madrid, there have been many rumours over the years about a return. Both players have been so important for their respective clubs. In both of these cases, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are clubs where both players really started to flourish. So, there’s a pull in media coverage to fulfil these ‘full circle’ narratives.
Again, this is not to say that Ronaldo can’t join United at some point in the future. In what capacity he may join the club is yet to be seen. Previously, he has refused to rule out becoming a manager or coach. For now, he is a Juventus player, yet to close his final chapter in Italy.
