REPORT: Arsenal and Chelsea Monitoring Orkun Kokcu

Arsenal and Chelsea are monitoring the situation of 19-year-old Orkun Kokcu at Feyenoord, according to reports from Dutch news outlet Voteball International.

The Dutch side may look to sell Kokcu this summer, with the club needing to raise funds to sign their top target, Heerenveen’s Joey Veerman.

Arsenal and Chelsea Waiting to Move

Arsenal’s interest in Kokcu appears to be long-standing. Gunners’ boss Mike Arteta wants to improve his squad this summer and regards the starlet as a suitable backup for Mesut Ozil.

Chelsea joined the race more recently. Olivier Giroud, Michy Batshuayi and Willian could all depart Stamford Bridge this summer. Therefore, Frank Lampard will want to strengthen his team with younger players.

Koku could be available for £23 million. However, the teenager is contracted to Feyenoord until 2023, so they remain in a good position to negotiate a higher fee this summer. His fee would decrease drastically if they couldn’t sell in in the coming window.

However, the 19-year-old reportedly wants to continue playing in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord for at least another season.

European Competition

A number of European clubs from outside the Premier League look set to rival Arsenal and Chelsea for the teenager’s signature this summer.

Sevilla technical director, Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, recently mentioned hopes of bringing Kokcu to Spain. Spanish rivals, Valencia and Real Betis also want to sign the Turkish international.

Impressive Prospect

Attacking midfielder Kokcu impressed for Feyenoord before the Eredivisie suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He made his debut for Feyenoord in 2018 but his breakthrough season came this year. The 19-year-old made 35 appearances in all competitions for De Kuip, in which he scored three goals and made six assists.

Despite representing Holland at various youth levels, Kokcu opted to play for Turkey in 2019 and made two appearances for the Turkish under 21 side.
