REPORT: Chelsea Want Ben Chilwell After Losing out on Alex Telles

Chelsea Ben Chilwell

Chelsea will attempt to sign Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell this summer, according to Anthony Chapman from the Sun.

The move comes after former Blues target, Alex Telles, looks likely to move to Paris St Germain, according to Renata De Medeiros from Brazilian news outlet Gauchazh.

Chelsea Target Ben Chilwell After Missing out on Alex Telles

Chelsea miss out on Telles

Frank Lampard showed interest in Telles in recent weeks. But, Porto accepted a £21.8 million bid from PSG for the full-back earlier this week, ultimately ending the Blue’s pursuit of the Brazilian.

It appears that PSG beat Chelsea to the 27-year-old and will pay a relatively low price for the Brazilian international.

Telles was in excellent form for Porto before the Primeira Liga suspended in March. The left-back scored eight goals and made five assists this season.

Attention Turns to Chilwell

Telles’ imminent transfer to Paris means Lampard and Chelsea will turn their attention towards Ben Chilwell instead.

However, the 23-year-old will be a much more expensive option. It’s believed that the England international could cost Chelsea up to four times the price of Telles.

Lampard’s Left-Back Issues

Missing out on Telles will be a big blow for Chelsea for footballing and financial reasons. If the Blues are willing to pay for Chilwell, his significantly higher cost could affect the club’s later transfer activity in the summer window.

Lampard remains eager to address the issue of left-back. Emerson Palmieri could join Juventus or Napoli and looks surplus to requirements at the club.

Marcos Alonso also competed for this position during the season. Despite impressing this season, Lampard wants to bring in younger players to compete for places next season.

Lampard may overhaul other areas of his squad this summer which could release much-needed funds for transfer activity.

Veteran striker Olivier Giroud looks set to leave Stamford Bridge, Michy Batshuyai is also out-of-favour and Brazilian winger Willian could also depart the club.
