Manchester United are finalising a deal for Jack Grealish, according to French journalist Manu Lonjon..
Manchester United Finalising Jack Grealish Transfer
Strong Interest
Manchester United have been chasing Jack Grealish for some time. There have been rumours of an interest in him for almost the whole season. The rumours have increased recently, and Lonjon believes they are now finalising the deal.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Is an Admirer
The Aston Villa playmaker impressed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with his goal against them during a 2-2 draw between the two clubs in November. Grealish is also young and British, meaning he would fit with United’s ideal criteria for signings in their rebuild.
The Englishman could bolster their options in midfield as well. Competition for places as helped the Red Devils this season. Luke Shaw, who was in a slump of bad form before the first-team breakout of Brandon Williams, is now playing like a first-class left-back.
Why a United Transfer for Jack Grealish May Not Make Sense
Despite his talent and nationality, a big-money move for Jack Grealish may not be the best use of their finances.
United recently declared that their financial situation is far from ideal, and with other transfers seemingly outweighing one for Grealish, signing him may not be a priority.
With Bruno Fernandes having arrived in January, he has now firmly established himself as the first-choice attacking midfielder for the Red Devils, and Marcus Rashford is similarly cemented at left-wing. Those are his two favoured positions, so he would probably shift into a more defensive, central midfield role, but as Scott McTominay, Fred, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are all fantastic options there, Grealish would be surplus to requirements.
Furthermore, with an expected price of £60 million, the Englishman may not be the best use of United’s fairly limited funds this season.
