REPORT: Manchester City Hoping to Sign Boubacar Kamara

Manchester City are looking to strengthen their defence with the acquisition of Marseille defender Boubacar Kamara, as reported by Neil Fissler at The Express.

Manchester City Hoping to Sign Marseille Defender Boubacar Kamara

A Decent Price for a Decent Defender

According to the report, the French club are willing to accept an offer of around £28 million, which in this day and age seems a bargain for the highly thought of youngster.

The reason is Marseille fears that, as a club, they will struggle financially if the Ligue 1 season is prematurely terminated due to the coronavirus pandemic and are prepared to cash in on one of their prized assets. As a result, Kamara may not be the only player to leave the club when the window opens.

The 20-year-old is highly thought of across Europe, with Chelsea and Real Madrid among the clubs that have also shown an interest in the past.

City need to strengthen in defence, an area of the field that has haunted Pep Guardiola this season despite having two transfer windows to put it right.

The Citizens have struggled defensively this season, largely down to the injury sustained by Aymeric Laporte early in the season, and the lack of alternative options.

Kamara Wants to Play in England

According to Fissler, the Frenchman has previously spoken of his desire to play in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old broke into the first team at Marseille three seasons ago and has gone on to make over 50 appearances for Les Phocéens.

But now it appears that the youngster, who has represented France at all levels of youth football earning over 40 caps, is ready to make his move, backed by his club to do so.

If the deal goes ahead, it could be a key signing for Guardiola and a sensible move from the French outfit with the financial uncertainty.
