Inter Milan Star Lautaro Martinez Makes Surprise Transfer Decision
Impressive for Inter
Lautaro Martinez was having an incredible season before the Coronavirus pandemic caused football’s suspension.
In 20 Serie A starts, the Argentine striker has scored 12 goals. He has furthered this in the Champions League with five in six appearances. Moreover, he is only 22 and has much potential for growth, even to become one of the best strikers in the world.
This has caught the eye of many clubs, most notably Barca and United.
Lautaro Martinez Has Attention From Europe
The Spanish giants need a striker in the summer. That of 2019 saw a big-money move for Antoine Griezmann to make the switch from Atletico Madrid to the Camp Nou, but he has failed to impress. For £107 million, with a £717 million release clause, Griezmann has been somewhat of a flop, especially compared to how good he was with Atletico. Barca are looking to sell him in the summer, raising funds for both a move for Martinez, and one for former player Neymar, who they sold to Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee in 2017.
Manchester United are also looking for a centre-forward come the end of the season. Anthony Martial has done a fantastic job of filling the role temporarily, in place of Romelu Lukaku, but the Red Devils will want a more permanent, clinical option there in the future. Martinez could provide just that, although they are also considering moves for Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner.
Recent Transfer Decision
Martinez’s agent told Mundo Deportivo that the Argentine is happy at Inter, despite links to some of the biggest clubs in the world.
“He treats it [the speculation] as if it is nothing, because he is only focused on his club.
“But surely there is great satisfaction knowing that he is doing things well.
“Lautaro has a five-year contract with Inter and the news that comes out is exclusively generated by the press.”
