Serge Aurier Plans to Finish Career at Paris Saint-Germain
Aurier Looks Forward to Returning to Paris
“Can I see myself finishing my career at PSG? That is my plan!” Aurier told Canal+ Afrique.
“I would like to finish at PSG. It is before everything else the club of my heart. I have a feeling of unfinished business.
“It has been my club since I was a kid, I would go watch matches at the Parc des Princes. It was a dream for me to come to PSG and for me that dream is not finished.
“If I was to finish my career at PSG, I would love that. I could have spent my entire career at PSG, that certainly wouldn’t have upset me. When you play for the club of your heart, you don’t want to go anywhere else nor do you have regrets.”
The Ivorian defender also cited his family, who live in Paris, as a reason to return to the Ligue 1 club.
Aurier’s Time at Spurs
Serge Aurier has had a real mixed bag of performances at the club. When Spurs first bought him in there were again, mixed reactions in August 2017. Since then, he has gone to perpetuate this inconsistency.
Following in the wake of Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier, Aurier had some work to do. But, he still currently ranks lower than them both in terms of his overall contribution. Now, the two aforementioned ex-Spurs right-backs were sometimes error-prone. However, Aurier seems to commit more errors, especially in the box. He definitely has a tendency to lunge in; he can be an erratic defender.
Jose Mourinho deploys Aurier further up the pitch, with more of a winger’s responsibility. This is probably for the best since his attacking is marginally better than his defending. In attack, he can pick out some decent balls. Indeed, he has four assists in all 24 Premier League appearances thus far this season. But, his accuracy and eye for a ball can really vary from match to match.
He still has time left to improve on his performances at the club. However, it is unlikely that he will suddenly have some kind of revival now. It is unclear as to whether this season will restart. But, before the start of the next season, Spurs as a whole will have a chance to re-evaluate. In this rebuilding and reorganising, Aurier might be able to find some form before he inevitably departs back to his boyhood club, Paris Saint-Germain.
