According to Jack Bezants of the Mail, Manchester United are interested in signing PSG right-back Thomas Meunier. While he would be a free signing as his contract is due to expire, he would still be costly due to his high wage demands.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is working on a rebuild at United, and his first step was the defence. He already brought in Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Wan-Bissaka plays at the right-back position and has been highly impressive, so it is hard to see why Solskjaer would buy another player for this position.

Why this Deal is a Good Idea
There are only a few small reasons why Solskjaer might want to complete this transfer. Firstly, Meunier is 28-years-old and highly experienced. In a squad that is largely young and naive, Meunier might bring greatly needed leadership and experience. The other reason is that the Belgian is more skilled in attack than the other current defensive options. Solskjaer has used wingbacks in some games, which could be the position that the PSG man would fit into.
Why this Deal Doesn’t Make Sense
However, there are a plethora of reasons why United should not go through with this deal. The first one is that Solskjaer is building a young squad for the future, one that Meunier would not fit into.
Furthermore, the right-back position that Meunier plays in is already set for years, with no reason to bring in another player by Wan-Bissaka, other than as back-up. Moreover, Meunier would be a highly expensive purchase due to wage demands, one that United cannot afford at this time.
The Red Devils are currently splashing cash in all positions trying to rebuild the squad. They have been linked to Jack Grealish, Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham, Matthijs de Ligt and Kalidou Koulibaly.
